Bình Thuận tackles challenges of household water shortage

Description

Bình Thuận, one of the driest provinces in Việt Nam, is taking measures against water shortage for households without tap water supply in the next dry season (i.e., November to April). The major concerns are in the districts of Hàm Thuận Bắc, Hàm Tân, Tánh Linh, Đức Linh, and Phú Quý. Households have exploited water from open wells and borewells, however, groundwater has depleted in recent years.
The province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked the People’s Committee for financial support in constructing water supply facilities. More specially, the department plans to dig 39 borewells, buy 414 water containers, and build and repair reservoirs with a total cost of 4.9 billion VNĐ (US$212,000). In addition, it proposes to renovate 26 water supply works, that demand VNĐ292 billion ($12.7 million).
