Cần Thơ: Mekong Delta Resilient Business Network established, aiming for climate change adaptation

Description

On 22nd July 2021, under the sponsorship of the global courier group UPS (United States), the Mekong Delta Resilient Business Network (MRBN) has been founded by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) chapter in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and The Asia Foundation (TAF).

The World Bank has assessed that Vietnam is among one of five countries most seriously impacted by climate change. If the sea level increases by 1 meter, the Mekong Delta will lose 10% of its GDP.

The network’s goal is to connect various stakeholders including entrepreneurs, scientists, and policymakers to develop climate change adaptation for enterprises in the Mekong Delta, according to the Director of VCCI Cần Thơ Nguyễn Phương Lam. Until the first quarter of 2022, the MRBN will research the effects of saline intrusion on firms and collect information on renewable energy development in the region.
