Green loans and bonds have now become the two largest sources of green financing worldwide. They play a crucial role in green investment for environmental protection and climate change adaptation, and will continue to grow rapidly in the near future to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by the middle of the 21st century.
One of the challenges for Vietnam is that, as of now, there are no specific environmental criteria of different industries as a basis for determining green financing needs for the next period. On July 29th 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City, a consultation workshop was organized by the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) in cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to propose and discuss the environmental criteria in green lending/bond issuance.
