A consultation workshop “Extended Production Responsibility (EPR) under the Law on Environmental Production toward Circular Economy in Vietnam” organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in cooperation with the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) and Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM). The workshop discussed specific regulations of a draft decree to implement the EPR, which is referred to in Articles 54 and 55 of the recently revised Environmental Protection Law 2020. Six product sectors will be required to apply EPR including batteries and accumulators, tires, lubricants, end of life vehicles, and packaging. The EPR is expected to promote the reform of solid waste management system, step by step establish the recycling industry as well as to be a base for the circular economy in Vietnam, according to Mr. Phan Tuấn Hùng, Head of the Legal Affairs Department of the MoNRE. The draft decree is presumably submitted in October 2021 and valid in January 2022.
