EU’s Green Team Europe Initiative collaborates with ASEAN for sustainable development and environmental protection

Description

The Green Team Europe Initiative in partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was launched on 18th November 2021 by the European Union (EU). The initiative aims to enhance the cooperation between EU and ASEAN in the field of climate action; environmental and biodiversity protection; clean energy transition; disaster resilience; prevention of illegal logging, wildlife trafficking, and air pollution.

Since December 2020, the EU established a strategic partnership with ASEAN. Its Team Europe Initiative offers a framework for a Green Initiative in South East Asia to address the region’s challenges in confrontation with climate change impacts. The initiative is part of the EU’s Green Deal diplomacy. It seeks the synergies between the EU’s Green Deal and ASEAN Community Vision 2025. Particularly, it provides a coordination framework for green action between participating Team Europe partners (including Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Romania, and the European Investment Bank) and the ASEAN and its member countries. The initiative has initial funding of €30 million from the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation (NDICI) – Global Europe (i.e., EU’s budget). It will be conducted at national and regional levels in Southeast Asia.
