Expert: require coordination between disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation

Description

Climate change has made natural disasters more unpredictable and severe, according to meteorological experts. Prof. Dr. Trần Thục, former director of Institute of Hydrometeorology and Climate Change and president of Việt Nam Association of Hydrometeorology, clarified: (1) the scientific background relating to this issue, (2) the contribution of climate change adaptation to disaster risk management and existing challenges, and (3) the negative results in case of no link between climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and recommendation of solutions in the context of Vietnam. In conclusion, it needs to promote the coordination and cooperation among ministries and agencies in policy-making, implementing programmes, and sharing tools and methods of implementation.
