France assists Quảng Ninh and Hải Phòng to sustainably develop bay areas

Description

The French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) has provided 1.2 million Euro in the form of a non-refundable grant for provinces of Quảng Ninh and Hải Phòng within the framework of the project on integrated management of Hạ Long Bay, Bái Tử Long Bay and estuaries of Hải Phòng. The French Development Agency (AFD) and Vietnam Administration of Sea and Islands are among the implementation actors in cooperation with local institutions and other research institutes in Vietnam and project partner in France – the urban community Brest (Brest Métropole). This three-year project is based on the French experience on integrated coastal management with the concept of “bay contract”. The “bay contract” is a model of integrated environmental and natural resources management which involves all stakeholders associated with the use and exploitation of natural resources in the area. The project results are expected to improve the capacity of integrated coastal management and subsequently establish a mechanism of coordination and experience sharing between local and central institutions.
