German project VN-SIPA sped up to support Vietnam to implement Paris Agreement

Project “Support to Vietnam for the implementation of the Paris Agreement” (VN-SIPA) is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and implemented by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) from 2019 to 2023. The project organized its second meeting in Hà Nội on Wednesday, 14 April to accelerate its implementation, particularly to support Vietnam realize its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

The project includes five work packages: (1) increase capacity to develop, revise, update and implement NDCs; (2) promote the legal framework for implementation of Paris agreement and integrate NDCs into ministerial strategies; (3) pilot the ecology-based solutions in Hà Tĩnh and Quảng Bình; (4) develop appropriate reduction measures of Greenhouse Gases emissions; and (5) promote the coordination of projects in the framework of IKI.

Presently, the project has supported Vietnam to establish a climate change program in the revised Law on Environmental Projection 2020 and climate change management documents and sectoral plans for climate change response. Additionally, it has carried some activities in Quảng Bình, for example, forest plantation, aquaculture, and animal farming.
