Germany supports Mekong River Commission 1.45 million EUR for establishing Core River Monitoring Network

Description

This financial support aims to solve the challenges of development and management in the Lower Mekong Basin. More specifically, it will promote technical cooperation in implementing the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Strategic Plan from 2021 to 2025. This is extra funding in addition to 3 million EUR in June 2021. It will support the MRC in developing its Core River Monitoring Network and receiving more timely data and information about the impacts of water infrastructure projects. Subsequently, it will contribute to informed decisions on responsible water resource management and enhance the ability of MRC to manage flood and drought risks more effectively.

Germany has cooperated with MRC since 1995 when this committee was established. Since then, Germany has supported MRC more than 50 million EUR to reach the vision of “an economically prosperous, socially just, environmentally sound and climate-resilient Mekong River Basin”.
