Germany will support Vietnam US$ 170 million for sustainable development and environmental protection

This is the result of the newly online discussion between Vietnam and Germany from 20.07. – 23.07. 2021 after Germany classified Vietnam as a new “global partner country”, according to the press release of the German Embassy in Vietnam on 29 July 2021.

Key topics of cooperation include: training and sustainable growth for good jobs, climate and energy, environment and natural resources, health/pandemic/ONE HEALTH, and peace and social cooperation.

The collaboration in the next two years focuses on global climate protection, economic integration, climate adaptation, biodiversity protection, global value chains, health protection, pandemic prevention, and illegal wildlife trade.

In particular, in the next two years, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commits to provide (US$ 134.7 million to support Vietnam in implementing a sustainable development model. The German Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) will assist Vietnam with US$ 35.6 million within the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) for biodiversity and climate projects in Vietnam.
