Good model in Hội An: Residents utilize organic waste to produce compost and detergent

Description

Nguyễn Thị Hồng Vân, a resident, lives in Thanh Đông Hamlet, Cẩm Thanh Commune in Hội An City, is successful in producing compost and dish-washing detergent from organic waste. Her successful initiative, as her interest, has inspired many villagers to follow her activity to separate and collect organic waste to produce compost in their garden and organic detergent. Those actions have led to a certain reduction of waste amount landfilled.

For those who don’t have gardens, local authorities encourage them to bring the sorted organic waste to a station in the village, called Material Recovery Facility, where organic waste is processed into compost by local waste collectors. Those residents can later use the compost product from this station as well. The Material Recovery Facility was first operated in January in Hội An and supported by the Management Boards of the Chàm Island Marine Protected Area and Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA).
