MARD: introduction of Climate-Smart Maps and Adaptation Plans

Description

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) launched the publication of Climate-Smart Maps and Adaptation Plans (CS-MAP), which aims to support farmers in handling climate risks, e.g., flooding, drought, and saline intrusion, in a workshop organized on Tuesday, 19 October. The CS-MAP was produced by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security in Southeast Asia (CCAFS SEA) and the Department of Crops Production under MARD.

The CS-MAP publications include a guidebook, an introduction video, and five atlases. The five atlases cover five ecological regions in Vietnam including the Mekong River Delta, Northern Midlands and Delta, South Central Coast, and North Central Coast.

Five steps to develop CS-MAP is illustrated in the following figure:

The CS-MAP can be integrated into relevant national and local policies and plans. It can serve as a tool for climate change adaption and disaster prevention at the local level. It is useful for farmers to plan production schemes and use soil and water resources more efficiently.

The guidebook is available in English (80 pages) and Vietnamese (84 pages) as follows:
