According to the draft master plan for the Mekong Delta in the period of 2021 – 2030 with the vision to 2050, there are three new ways of thinking including: (1) respecting the functioning of the natural ecosystem, (2) consider climate change not only a threat but also an opportunity, and (3) changing mindset about food security.
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong stated, if approved, the master plan will be the basis to achieve sustainable development and climate change adaptation in conformance with Resolution 120/NQ-CP and the commitment of Vietnam in the global response to climate change. However, under the limited financial capacity, it requires a specific financial mechanism to implement the official master plan, the Dutch Ambassador Elsbeth Akkerman suggested.
