National Report on Environment 2016 – 2020: air pollution is predominant issue

Description

On 11th November, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) released the National Report on Environmental State from 2016 to 2020. In this period, rapid economic growth has generated a vast amount of waste and the environmental pollution is still complicated in some areas.

The overall picture of the environment in Vietnam is predominated by air pollution, especially in big cities and building material exploitation sites. Additionally, air pollution is increasing in craft villages. The water environment has been improved. More specifically, the quality of underground water and seawater remains to be relatively good. The water quality of river basins is good at upstream and middle streams. However, it is partially polluted for the sections flowing across inner parts of cities and areas where concentrate industrial parks, industrial clusters, and craft villages. For the river basins of Nhuệ – Đáy, Cầu (in the North), and Đồng Nai (in the South), they are still hotspots of water pollution, especially for the sections flowing across areas with industrial activities and rapid urbanization.

The report is available here.
