Piloting forest governance monitoring system for non-state actors

Description

Since 2017, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Vietnam, the Center for People and Forests (RECOFTC), and the People and Nature Reconciliation (PanNature) have been cooperated to develop a Forest Governance Monitoring System (FGMS) for non-state actors. An app and instruction manual of FGMS are available. The FGMS app was tested in Quảng Nam in early 2021 and will be handed over to relevant stakeholders at the end of 2021.

The FGMS aims to supplement data for the available forest monitoring and assessment system of the Government of Vietnam. In the meantime, FGMS promotes the participation of non-state actor and improve and capacity and quality of the coordination and cooperation in forest governance, monitoring, and assessment. The FGMS can be used to implement the international agreement on Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VPA-FLEGT), Payment for Forest Environmental Services (PFES), and reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD+) under the principle of sustainable forest management (SFM).

The development of FGMS is within the framework of the EU-funded “Voices for the Mekong Forests” project.
