Heath protection is an important issue for citizens and societies. However, urban and transport planning hasn’t paid proper attention to relevant health effects. There is also a gap of knowledge on how to harmonize goals of health promotion with other goals, e.g., accessibility and economically efficient development.
The project SHOTUP aims to prove the interdependencies between urban structures, transport systems, and health and subsequently to establish health-related conflicting goals in urban and transport development. Two case study cities of Hồ Chí Minh City and Frankfurt am Main are chosen to research on these topics concentrating on air pollution.
The project period is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from April 2019 to March 2022 (with extension) and is coordinated by the Institute of Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering, Technical University of Darmstadt. The Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has just approved the project. The Vietnamese German Transport Research Centre, Vietnamese German University is the coordination in Vietnam.
