Quảng Bình: establishing management board for sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation


The central province of Quảng Bình established the Management Board for Project “Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation of Quảng Bình province”. The project is under the administrative management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). It is financially supported by the non-refundable ODA of US$ 2 million from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and counterpart fund of over 5 billion VNĐ from Quảng Bình province. The project’s period is 2021 – 2016.

This project belongs to the umbrella project “Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation” of the USAID and MARD, which was launched in April 2021. The total funding of the project is US$ 27.87 million. Of which, USAID provides US$ 25 million and MARD provides US$ 2.87 million as counterpart fund. The project is implemented in 11 provinces including Lào Cai, Sơn La, Hòa Bình, Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh (Vũ Quang National Park), Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thiên-Huế, Quảng Nam và Lâm Đồng (focusing on Bidoup Núi Bà National Park), and 3 National Parks under the management of Vietnam Forest Administration (Cúc Phương, Bạch Mã, Cát Tiên). The project aims to reduce greenhouse gases emissions, increase carbon sequestration from forests, and conserve the biodiversity of high-value forests in Vietnam.
