Quảng Ngãi: beach flooded by solid waste after each rainy season

After each rainy and stormy season, tons of solid waste from elsewhere flood into the 300-meter-beach Tịnh Kỳ in Quảng Ngãi city posing serious pollution and terrifying local residents. The major components of the waste are domestic and plastic waste. According to the inspection of the Quảng Ngãi city’s People’s Committee on 1st January, there was about more than 20 tons of waste on the beach.

This phenomenon has happened for a long time, i.e., every year, after each rainy and stormy season, mentioned a local resident. Normally, the local residents clean up the waste, the latest campaign was in April 2021, however, this year the amount of waste was too much for them to handle, said Phạm Ngọc Thanh – leader of An Vĩnh village. The solid waste is discharged into rivers and follows the river estuaries to the sea and land to this beach, explained Nguyễn Hoài Thanh, chairman of People’s Committee of Tịnh Kỳ Commune.
