According to the groundbreaking ceremony organized on 24th October, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant is located in a 60-hectare area in Cẩm Thịnh ward, Cẩm Phả city of Quảng Ninh province. The expected capacity is 1,500 MW with a total investment is 47,480 billion VNĐ or 1,998 billion USD. The investor of this project is PV Power, Colavi JSC, and Tokyo Gas and Marubeni.
It is the first power plant that uses imported LNG in the north of Vietnam. Once completed, the plant is expected to provide 9 billion kWh per year into the national grid network. Additionally, it will contribute to the local budget of about 57,000 billion VNĐ in the next 25 years.
In October 2020, the Prime Minister approved the Quảng Ninh LNG power plant project to supplement the National Power Development in the period 2011 – 2020, vision 2030. This project will contribute to the implementation of the policy to transfer the growth model from “brown” to “green”.
