The initiatives aim to promote plastic packaging collection, sorting, and recycling, encourage fishermen to collect plastic waste caught while fishing, establish a supermarket alliance to reduce single-use plastic bags, and manage waste in ports. The piloted activities are conducted with the project “Rethinking Plastics – Circular Economy Solutions to Marine Litter”, which is co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and European Union (EU) and implemented in seven countries including China, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam from 2019 to 2022.
