Proof of the technical and economic feasibility of dual land use for solar power generation and aquaculture in pond management
Worldwide – and especially in Việt Nam – land scarcity is becoming an increasingly urgent topic. Central drivers are population growth and per capita economic growth, which increase the use of land, inter alia, to meet the growing demand for food and energy. Through the cooperation between German and Vietnamese partners, the SHRIMPS project aims to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of dual land use for solar power generation and aquaculture in the pond industry. Together with local pangasius and shrimp breeders, the project partners are exploring synergies and interactions between the two levels in an interdisciplinary approach. Based on innovative and shadow-tolerant cultivation methods of pangasius and shrimp, researchers and industrial partners from Việt Nam and Germany are jointly developing a concept for an integrated, ecologically and economically sustainable aquaculture photovoltaic system that promotes the expansion of renewable energies without claiming additional land.
