That is the statement of Tạ Đình Thi, Director General of the Việt Nam Administration of Seas and Islands (VASI) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, at a virtual meeting of environmental officials from Vietnam, Germany, Ecuador and Ghana on 31 March 2021. He also mentioned that Vietnam has approved a development strategy to promote the marine economy and, in the meantime, protect marine environment and ecosystems.
The representatives of four countries called for organizing a ministerial conference in the coming September to achieve a global agreement towards coordinated actions against threat from marine waste.
Vietnam’s representative, Tạ Đình Thi, stressed that a new global agreement will promote the regional and national measures against the global plastic crisis and tackle transboundary marine litter and plastic pollution issues.
