Vietnam joins global treaty on ocean plastic pollution

Description

Vietnam strives to become a pioneer in the region to combat marine plastic litter, contributing to the development of the circular economy model. Prime Minister, therefore, approved the Project “Vietnam proactively prepares and participates in developing global treaty on ocean plastic pollution” via Decision 1407/QĐ-TTg on August 16, 2021.

The project aims to equip sufficient capacities in terms of human resources, information, and data serving for the proactive preparation and participation in treaty negotiation, ensuring rights and benefits, improving national capacity to prevent and control ocean plastic pollution.

The Ministry of National Resources and Environment (MONRE) coordinates with relevant authorities and agencies to implement the project. MONRE will develop a national report on ocean plastic, which will serve for the treaty negotiations.
